Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe issued unfortunate news on Monday. C Ryan O'Reilly was placed on long-term injured reserve due to a broken finger.

O'Reilly sustained his injury when struck by an Auston Matthews' shot (which I hear is pretty hard) in Saturday's game against Vancouver. An ensuing whack by Canucks D Quinn Hughes probably didn't help matters either.

As noted above, "The Factor" is expected to return for the playoffs. However, since he was injured after the trade, his situation does not apply to the NHL's recent memorandum concerning LTIR cap savings.
