The Hurricanes would receive Erik Karlsson with his $11.5 million salary 30% retained by the San Jose Sharks. The Swedish sensation is fresh off a bounce back season, recording his first career 100+ point season, and winning his third career Norris Trophy for the leagues best defenseman.
The Return
In return for Erik Karlsson, the San Jose Sharks would receive defenseman Brett Pesce, goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov, a 2024 2nd round pick, and a 2025 1st round pick.
With this proposed trade, the Sharks would in return get a top 4 defenseman in Brett Pesce at a much cheaper AAV than Karlsson, and their goaltender of the future in Pyotr Kochetkov, who at 24 years old has a career 2.34 goals against average and a .908 save percentage.
