Recently Retired Enforcer Shares the Real Reason His Career Was Ruined
The life of an NHL enforcer means potentially putting your health, and possibly even your life, on the line every time you drop the gloves. A recently retired NHLer who made his living mostly with his fists, says one fight in particular left him in an awful way.
Kassian Recalls the Moment that Ruined his Career
Zach Kassian recently ended his NHL after 12 seasons in the league and 661 regular season games. He had a reputation as a tough guy, and a player willing to fight at any time. However, in an interview Daily Faceoff, Kassian said a fight with Zach MacEwan during a preseason game between the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks in 2021 left him in an awful way.
"The human brain, something happens like that, a concussion, knocked out cold, it's very tough to go back to being the same player. The mind is wired in a special way that you just don't forget about what happened.
Former Enforcer Says He Never Felt the Same Following Fight in 2021
Kassian added having kids also gives you a different perspective, and he realizes he was a very reckless player at time. The 32 year old retired after being let go from a professional tryout with the Arizona Coyotes.
