As much as we all love it, hockey can be a very cruel sport sometimes, and this is a perfect example

Olympic Medalist Provides Update on Condition after Incident in the Ice

Sanni Hakala, who won two bronze medals with the Finnish Women's Hockey team at the Olympics in 2018 and 2022, has made her first public statement since crashing head first into a goal post during a game in Sweden. The news is not good. Hakala said it's still hard to understand how something so seemingly minor turned into something so big.

"Not only that I am forced to stop playing hockey, something that has been a big part of my life for many years, but that I may be forced to sit in a wheelchair the rest of my life. The injury I sustained last Friday has left me paralyzed from the chest down, with reduced function in my arms and hands."

Despite the shock and sadness she must be feeling, the 26 year old Hakala seems determined to stay positive.

"The situation obviously sucks but I'm not scared to take it on. I don't know what I'm going to do next, but I know it's going to be f--king awesome!"

All the best to Hakala, her family, and supporters going forward.
