Hockey Canada has announced they are officially investigating a GTHL coach for an altercation involving a player.

Altercation Leads To Major Investigation

A new video circulating the internet has led to an investigation from Hockey Canada. The video shows a GTHL U10 hockey coach slashing and shoving a player during practice. The coach is under fire for not following Safe Sport protocols put in place by Hockey Canada.

I was sent this video today, one of several that were purportedly filmed during a U10 GTHL team practice last night.
GTHL comment: "The GTHL is required to report incidents it suspects may be a violation of the Hockey Canada safe sport policies to the Independent Third Party working on behalf of Hockey Canada. The league can confirm that it has filed a report regarding an incident that occurred on Nov. 29, 2023."

The investigation is currently ongoing and could lead to a formal punishment for the coach.

Hockey Canada Cracking Down On Coach And Player Conduct

After all of the controversies facing Hockey Canada over the last year the governing body is cracking down on incidents like this one. Safe Sport was instituted in Canada after it had been in place in the United States for a couple of years prior.

Hockey Canada still has a ton of progress that needs to be made to make players, coaches, and families feel safe to have their child play the sport. Handling situations like these with the proper care and attention they demand is a good first step.

As more information becomes available in this developing story we will pass it along to you.
