NHL released statement following terrifying scene with Steve Kozari

It was a terrifying scene today when NHL referee Steve Kozari was knocked unconscious by a hit from Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Haydn Fleury.

Referee Steve Kozari was transported to UPMC Mercy hospital for precautionary reasons after a collision with Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Haydn Fleury in the third period of the Penguins-Lightning game this afternoon. Kozari is conscious and alert, has the use of all of his extremities and is expected to make a full recovery.

We will see whether Steve Kozari returns to his job as a referee after this horrifying event.

As for former seventh overall pick Haydn Fleury, we are sure he feels absolutely awful about this accidental incident. It is yet to be seen whether he will face supplemental discipline.
