Jack Edwards sends beautiful message to Bruins fans after final game
After an incredible 19-year run in the broadcast booth for the Boston Bruins, Jack Edwards officially hung up the mic on Thursday night. It was the end of an era as Game 6 between the Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs marked Edwards' final call as the Bruins' play-by-play broadcaster for NESN. Unfortunately, the Bruins couldn't send him off with a win, falling 2-1 at Scotiabank Arena.
Now, even though there's still a Game 7 showdown on Saturday night back at TD Garden, ABC has the exclusive broadcast rights for the deciding match. That means NESN's broadcasting for the 2023-24 season wrapped up on Thursday.
As the final seconds ticked away in Toronto, Edwards took a moment to address Bruins fans from the booth one last time. He reflected on the incredible moments he's witnessed and described over the past 19 years, thanking everyone at NESN for their support and dedication, especially his broadcast partner Andy Brickley, whom he called "the brother I never had."
Brickley, who has been Edwards' main color analyst throughout their time at NESN, offered a heartfelt tribute to his broadcast partner, thanking him for their joyous ride together.
Edwards had announced his retirement at the end of the Bruins' regular season, knowing that this playoff run would be his final stint in the booth. His passionate and colorful commentary has been a staple for Bruins fans since he first started calling games for NESN in 2005.
However, in recent seasons, Edwards faced challenges with speech issues. Despite these difficulties, he remained dedicated to delivering the best broadcast possible for fans and the Bruins organization.
While a series-clinching victory for the Bruins in either Games 5 or 6 would have been a dream ending to Edwards' illustrious career, he still closed out Thursday's broadcast with his trademark sign-off, bidding farewell to viewers and offering a final salute to the Boston Bruins.
And with that, an unforgettable chapter in Bruins broadcasting came to a close.
