Doctor believes Auston Matthews may be sidelined for up to nine months
Auston Matthews has been absent from the Toronto Maple Leafs last two playoff games with an illness but one doctor believes it could be more serious than that.
One of the top questions that everybody is asking right now is 'Why is Auston Matthews out?' The Toronto Maple Leafs say it is an illness but speculation has pointed at it possibly being a concussion or something more serious.
A video has gone viral showing Matthews going down hard after a collision with Charlie McAvoy and then shortly exiting the game. Speculation has pointed to this being a potential knee injury for the Rocket Richard winner.
I watched his shifts after this play in game 3 and in game 4 and he looked noticeably slower and had much less jump. Tons of torque on the front and inside of the right knee, MCL/LCL tear?
After seeing the post, Doctor Jesse Morse shared that Matthews could have suffered an ACL injury amongst others.
The medial meniscus is attached to the deep fibers of the MCL so technically both could be injured.
If both are compromised sometimes the ACL can get injured too.
They're calling out with an 'illness' for game 5 & 6 which is strange to me, so there may be more to this knee injury.
It is unknown what is truly causing Matthews to be out but the possibility of something more serious seems more and more likely.
