Major update on Steven Stamkos' future with the Tampa Bay Lightning
We have a major update on Steven Stamkos and his future with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization to report.
Following the Bolts' tough elimination in the first round of the playoffs at the hands of the Florida Panthers, a lot of questions were raised in Tampa Bay, and one of the biggest one resolved around the team captain; Steven Stamkos.
Stamkos, 34, will be a free agent on July 1st, and as of now, we don't know what'll happen to him.
He said many times that he wants to remain in Tampa Bay, but Julien BriseBois could struggle to give him what he wants, considering all the team's recent acquisitions, even if the GM also mentionned on a few occasions that he wants to keep Stamkos in Tampa.
Another proof that he wants to do it emerged. Star defenseman Victor Hedman will be able to negotiate for a contract extension this summer, and BriseBois stated that his priority is working on a deal with Stamkos.
It was also put forward that discussions should start around the start of June.
