A year ago, the Columbus Blue Jackets were thrilled to land Adam Fantilli in the first-round of the 2023 NHL Draft, as it added another stud to their prospect pool that already includes Kent Johnson and David Jiricek among other players. After another disappointing season, the team now own the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, with hopes of adding yet another stud to this roster for the future.
However, it appears the organization may be thinking a little differently, as President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddell has today revealed that the team are open for business on their first-round draft pick.
It's unclear whether or not the team are looking at a specific piece around the league they would like to land or are simply encouraging other teams to start communication with them, but for now, we could see yet another draft day blockbuster. With Patrik Laine likely on the way out any day now, there's a chance these two assets could be paired together, and with so many players available, this makes Columbus an intriguing team to keep an eye on.
