NHL insider Elliotte Friedman made a shocking statement about the Arizona Coyotes today, revealing that he does not care about the franchise anymore.
The team got more bad news yesterday when next week's land auction was cancelled. This is a major setback for the franchise, as they still require a building to play in should they return to the NHL.
Elliotte Friedman's words on the state of the Coyotes is very telling. I highly suggest listening to 32 Thoughts that dropped today
As part of the deal that saw the Coyotes sold and relocated to Sale Lake City, the NHL gave Alex Meruelo the rights to the team until December 31st, 2027. It is a five-year window for the owner to figure out a new building, and get construction started. They do not even need to have the building complete by then, but it does have to be close. Based on everything we've seen though, this does not seem like a realistic possibility, and as such, Friedman has decided to simply ignore the Coyotes for the time being.
Elliotte says he's checked out on the Phoenix Coyotes story until Meruelo's deadline of Dec, 31, 2027 passes.
"I don't care about this story anymore. I just don't." 😂😂
"We all know once Meruelo is out of the picture, they're (NHL) going back."
Friedman and Marek spent a decent amount of time discussing this issue on today's issue of 32 Thoughts. The entire podcast can be accessed through the post below, including their discussion of the Coyotes, which takes place roughly 30 minutes into the show.
"I don't care about this story anymore. I looked at the Coyotes statement... you now that meme that's like I ain't reading all that, but I'm happy for you though, or sorry that happened? That's what came into my head. We know that Alex Meruelo must deliver his reactivation notice no later than December 31st, 2027. For it to be granted, the new arena must be at least 50% complete. Wake me up when we're there."
Will Alex Meruelo bring the Coyotes back to Arizona by the 2027 deadline? Only time will tell.
