Guilty member of the Canada WJC on the verge of signing a new pro contract
Michael McLeod, former member of the New Jersey Devils, has been linked to the KHL as he awaits trial for his role int he 2018 Hockey Canada scandal at the World Junior Championship.
According to the latest rumors, Metallurg of the KHL is interested in McLeod's services. This is not too surprising considering the fact that the 26-year-old was having his best season of his career before he was suspended indefinitely. He had 10 goals and 19 points in 45 games this season, not far off from his career high of 26 points, which came in the 2022-23 season where he played in 80 contests.
Just a rumor for now, we'll keep an eye on it.
Metallurg is coming off a great season where they won the Gagarin Cup for winning the Championship series. As such, they likely do not need McLeod's services to compete next season, but it is rare that young NHL caliber talent becomes available to KHL teams. That being said, Metallurg may have a hard time signing McLeod and getting him to stay as he has legal obligations to Canada, given he is awaiting trial for his role in the 2018 World Junior Championship scandal.
Furthermore, McLeod is the only player of the five facing charges to receive more than a single charge. As a result, his future is the most uncertain of the five players.
Other four have been charged with one.
