17-year Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes veteran announces his retirement
Brett Sutter, who has played 17 seasons in the Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes organizations, has announced his retirement.
Sutter played 1,090 American Hockey League games and 60 NHL games over his 17-year career. He picked up 198 goals and 265 assists in the AHL, as well as two goals and eight assists in the NHL.

Sutter will now be taking on a new role with the Calgary Wranglers, joining head coach Trent Cull as an assistant behind the bench. He released a heartfelt message on social media thanking all fans for their support over his nearly two decades of playing professionally.

Perhaps the most famous memory Flames fans have of Sutter is when he scored his first NHL goal during his first NHL game prior to the Christmas break on December 23, 2008. Fans in Calgary will be happy to know it appears he will now be calling the city his home for quite some time.
