After years of many disappointing goaltender tandems, the Toronto Maple Leafs now have a new combination after moving on from Ilya Samsonov this off-season. In his place comes Anthony Stolarz, who comes off a Stanley Cup run with the Florida Panthers to partner emerging star Joseph Woll, and now the veteran has revealed why the Maple Leafs were his top choice.
It's no shock that after sitting behind Sergei Bobrovsky, the 30-year old wants the opportunity to see the ice some more, with GM Brad Treliving echoing similar sentiments when asked about the former Panthers goaltender.
Confidence in their goaltending group appears to be very high in Toronto after Stolarz posted a 2.03 GAA and a .925 save percentage a season ago, and if the two can stay healthy it will be a dangerous pairing all season long.
