Evgeni Malkin has been synonymous with the Pittsburgh Penguins over the past two decades, but now the veteran forward is seemingly on his way out in a hurry.

For the past 20 years, Evgeni Malkin has played a key role with the Penguins, helping them to three Stanley Cup's alongside Sidney Crosby, but it may all be ending soon. According to Mark Madden, a Penguins reporter, Malkin, despite having two years left on his current deal is set to depart the NHL after this season in similar fashion to Evgeny Kuznetsov, ultimately departing for the KHL.

«I've been told (Malkin) won't be back after this year - that he'll go to Russia and forgo the last year of his deal,» Madden said. «How does that impact Sid? Does Sid know? I bet he does. And I heard there were discussions about trying to get Letang to Montreal at Letang's request, but nothing came of that. So I don't know where this is headed.»

Madden is the same reporter that predicted Crosby's deal would be announced on his birthday, August 7th, so take it with a grain of salt, but at 38-years of age, it makes sense as there is simply nothing left for Malkin to accomplish in the NHL.

This is reportedly well known within the organization, and given the lack of a future in Pittsburgh, it could ultimately snowball into General Manager Kyle Dubas making some huge decisions for the future of the organization. In his 18 seasons with Pittsburgh, Malkin has tallied 1,145 games played, 498 goals and 1,296 points to go along with a Hart Trophy and three Cup's, so no one could blame him for departing the NHL, but if he does, the hope is that things don't turn too sour in Pittsburgh.
