After a judging error resulted in Jordan Chiles being stripped of her bronze medal, the US Olympic Committee responded with a promise to appeal the decision.

The Paris Olympics have been one of the most disastrous global sporting events in years, characterized by illness, bigotry, and offensive conditions. Yet, the latest controversy plaguing the event has come from women's gymnastics, in which a judging error created a discrepancy in lower podium placement. Upon receiving a standing ovation for her floor routine, American Olympian Jordan Chiles was deservedly awarded Bronze, her first Olympic medal.

However, after the International Olympic Committee found there to be a problem in these calculations and the USA's inquiry was submitted four seconds late, they forced Jordan Chiles to give up her bronze medal for floor exercise. Instead of sharing the award as is usually done in this situation, the medal was to be left entirely to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu.

However, upon the news of this ridiculous error and action, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) released a statement, detailing the scenario that led to the International Committee's ruling. Moreover, they assured their dedication to appealing this decision, hoping to get the world to recognize Jordan Chiles as the champion she is.

"The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) will be appealing the recent decision made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding Jordan Chiles. We firmly believe that Jordan rightfully earned the bronze medal, and there were critical errors in both the initial scoring by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the subsequent CAS appeal process that need to be addressed.

The initial error occurred in the scoring by FIG, and the second error was during the CAS appeal process, where the USOPC was not given adequate time or notice to effectively challenge the decision. As a result, we were not properly represented or afforded the opportunity to present our case comprehensively.

Given these circumstances, we are committed to pursuing an appeal to ensure that Jordan Chiles receives the recognition she deserves . We remain dedicated to supporting her as an Olympic champion and will continue to work diligently to resolve this matter swiftly and fairly."

Though this is no guarantee that Jordan Chiles will get her bronze medal back, knowing her country and fans are still fighting for her recognition will go a long way. Hopefully, the International Olympic Committee will make the right decision, and recognize both athletes for their outstanding routines.
