Matt Rempe chooses controversial NHL enforcer as the player he most wants to fight
Matt Rempe has shocked the hockey world when he was asked which enforcer he'd like to fight. His surprising answer: Milan Lucic.
Matt Rempe has quickly embraced his role as the New York Rangers' young, fearless enforcer. Despite playing just 17 games in his rookie NHL season in 2023-24, Rempe made a lasting impression, earning a spot in the hearts of Rangers fans who eagerly anticipate his next on-ice fight.
During a recent autograph session, Matt Rempe made headlines with his choice of a dream fight opponent. Instead of picking the usual fighters like Andreas Englund or Nicholas Deslauriers, Rempe surprised many by naming Milan Lucic, which was reported by Hockey Patrol.
Milan Lucic, who is currently a free agent and might have played his final NHL game, has faced challenges both on and off the ice. In November, while on his second stint with the Boston Bruins, Lucic was arrested following an alleged domestic violence incident involving his wife, Brittany. Since then, finding a new team has proven difficult for the veteran forward, and NHL Gary Bettman has yet to give him the green light to play again in the league, leaving many wondering if he will ever don an NHL jersey again.
Given these circumstances, a Lucic-Rempe showdown seems unlikely, no matter how much Matt Rempe might wish for it.
On the ice, Matt Rempe's contributions have not been phenomenal. He recorded just one goal and one assist in the regular season, and his ice time dropped during the playoffs, resulting in him being scratched for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Florida Panthers.
While Matt Rempe's dedication to defending his teammates is admirable, he'll need to improve his offensive game to provide the Rangers with the depth they need for a deeper playoff run.
So, perhaps it's best to set aside thoughts of a Lucic-Rempe matchup and focus on how Matt Rempe can grow his overall game.
