Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney comes clean about Jeremy Swayman contract disaster

Reports recently surfaced that Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins were about to announce a new deal, but GM Don Sweeney shut that completely down.

Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney confirmed what many expected on Wednesday. He announced that restricted free agent goalie Jeremy Swayman won't be showing up to training camp until he signs a contract.

Sweeney said he was disappointed that Swayman wouldn't be on the ice with his teammates but remained hopeful the 25-year-old from Anchorage, Alaska would ink a deal before the December 1 deadline for RFAs. If he doesn't sign by then, he will have to sit out the entire season!

Drafted 111th overall in 2017 out of the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede, Swayman was lined up to take on the mantle of top goalie for the Bruins with Linus Ullmark's trade to the Ottawa Senators this offseason.

Over the past three seasons, it's been reasonably even between Swayman and Ullmark carrying the goaltending load. Last season Swayman played 44 games, going 25-10-8 with a 2.53 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.

He was an All-Star in 2024 and combined with Ullmark, they both won the 2023 William M. Jennings Trophy, given to the league's top goalie tandem for allowing the fewest goals that season.

With camp underway, other goalies in the mix for the Bruins include Joonas Korpisalo, whom they acquired in the Ullmark deal from the Senators, along with Brandon Bussi and Michael DiPietro. Ouch.
