The Toronto Maple Leafs first pre-season tilt was full of physicality, but it paled in comparison to the second, with the most notable moment in the game being an injury to Patrik Laine after forward Cedric Pare collided with him at the knee. Unsurprisingly and rightfully so, Canadiens fans were disgusted with the play, and let their voices be heard on social media.
Later in the game, physical defenseman Arber Xhekaj was quick to retaliate against Pare, going after the 25-year old center in the middle of the ice, in a move that may ultimately result in a suspension.
However, the worst part of the night came after the game, when Pare was asked about the collision with Laine during an interview, to which he was laughing and showing absolutely no remorse.
During the interview, Pare tried to clear the air and say it was an accident, saying that he hopes Laine is okay as the injury looked quite serious, but his body language said quite the opposite, and with the regular season opener coming in Montreal between these two teams, it's safe to say there'll be plenty of feeling in that one. Pare won't be a part of that game, as he is very unlikely to ever sniff an NHL game with the Maple Leafs, but given the actions in this game, the Canadiens could be out for blood.
At this point, there's no update on Patrik Laine's condition, but given how important he is to the potential success of Montreal, we hope that he can recover and get back on the ice very quickly for the Canadiens.
