Artem Anisimov came to the NHL over a decade ago with plenty of hype, and now he retires after a very solid career that last saw him play in 2021.

The past generation of the NHL was filled with many superstars, and while some are still going, plenty have already moved on with their careers, and now that list includes another. Despite coming out of a supposed retirement earlier this year to join the AHL, Artem Anisimov has now officially hung up the skates , with the NHLPA acknowledging his decision on social media.

At 36-years of age, the Russian born forward was originally a second-round pick of the New York Rangers way back in the 2006, and would make his NHL debut in 2008 with New York. The talented center would go on to play 771 NHL games for the Rangers, Blue Jackets, Blackhawks and Rangers, and would have significant success over that time, tallying a solid 180 goals and 376 points over that time, while playing in 44 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The veteran forward would try to restart his NHL. career in each of the last two seasons, and while this led to him playing 73 AHL games over that time, it became clear he just wasn't at the NHL level anymore.

With plenty of experience under his belt, he will now officially transition into life after professional hockey, and given that experience, he will no doubt find a new role wherever he wants, whether that be in Russia or here in North America.

He may not have had the Stanley Cup Playoffs success that he would have wanted, but Anisimov put together a fantastic career over 14 years of hockey, so we wish him the best in retirement and the best of luck with his future endeavours.
