Last night, the game between the Canucks and the Flyers marked the NHL debuts of Matvei Michkov and Jett Luchanko, a moment that could be remembered for a long time by fans. Both players are expected to have a great impact in the NHL for Philadelphia.
On the other side of the ice, the same core that had a successful season last year was in uniform, except goaltender Thatcher Demko, who's injured. Quinn Hughes, Elias Petersson, Brock Boeser, and J.T. Miller were all in uniform, but couldn't keep up with the Flyers and ended up losing 3-2 in shootouts.
During the first period of the game, the team lost an important member due to an injury.
Tyler Myers, the Canucks' 6'8" defenseman was forced to leave the game against the Flyers following an awkward leg movement during a hit on Joel Farabee.
His leg twisted in a way that it shouldn't have and the player had to get helped off the ice by his teammates, as he couldn't put any weight on it.
This was a worrying scene for many Canucks fans, who can always count on Myers to offer solid defensive performances for Vancouver.
Watch the incident in the video below:
The blue line lost a lot of depth this summer when the Canucks management couldn't resign the free agent Nikita Zadorov with the team. With Myers likely gone for a while, the team will need to address the void left by his absence.
They have many options, but we should be seeing either Vincent Desharnais or Erik Brannstrom, acquired in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche recently, get an opportunity to play.
The Canucks will be back in action tomorrow, as they're set to face the Tampa Bay Lightning next Tuesday.
