After many rumors' about Trevor Zergas being traded to the Canadiens, Elliotte Friedman has confirmed the interest between the teams, and its ultimate dissipation.

As of late, Montreal Canadiens fans were on the edge of their seats, because of the rumors regarding their team acquiring Trevor Zergas, the ninth pick of the 2019 NHL draft, adding to their stock of young, talented players. His set of skills, youth and energy would've made for a great fit on the team. His longstanding relationship with Habs star Cole Caufield, who he's played with since his youth on the World Junior Championship Team, would've made for great team chemistry as well.

Names like Kaiden Guhle or David Reinbacher, as well as their large number of draft picks in the coming years, were considered as possible trade pieces for the Anaheim Ducks to receive in exchange for the talented two-way forward.

However, when speaking to the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Sportsnet journalist Elliotte Friedman, who recently confirmed Timothy Liljegren of the Toronto Maple Leafs is on the trade block, told the hosts this:

"I don't think there was a lot of action around Zergas in terms of trade after the draft"

He then went on to say that talks between the Canadiens and Ducks died down, resulted in nothing going through for either team.

The Canadiens, who just signed Gustav Lindstrom to bolster their AHL lineup, have had a rough few seasons since making the NHL finals in 2021, and have entered a rebuild, in hopes of eventually rediscovering the immense success they enjoyed throughout the 20th century.

Despite not being able to bring the Zergas trade over the line, they will absolutely be looking to better their team, and hopefully end a 31 year Canada-wide and Montreal drought for a Stanley Cup victory.

Will the Canadiens find their way back to the Finals anytime soon? Or will it be another long drought for Habs fans and their organization?
