Auston Matthews has been out for weeks now with an injury, and after his visit to Germany to deal with the situation, Craig Berube has given an update.

When he originally left the Maple Leafs lineup, the belief was that Auston Matthews would be out for a few weeks and return in a timely manner, but thus far, that simply hasn't happened.

The Leafs captain remains sidelined, and during a recent update, Berube stated that there has been no setbacks, but rather that Matthews just isn't recovering as quick as he was expected.

Now, Head Coach Craig Berube has offered another update on the situation, just days after it was revealed that Matthews took a mysterious visit to Germany to have a new perspective on his injury.

«Everything went well. He's actually improving and in a really good spot right now going forward so we are very happy with that.»

When asked when Matthews will skate again, Berube said that it would likely take place this weekend, but given how his status has been up in the air for weeks now, anything is possible.

Without Matthews in the lineup, Toronto have gone 6-1-0 with Mitch Marner leading the way (4 goals, 8 assists) in those seven games, but without their captain, this team just isn't as good as they can be.

In 13 games this season, 34 has been off to a slow start by his standards with 5 goals and 11 points, but when healthy, he remains one of the best players in the NHL.

For now though, we patiently await the return of arguably the NHL's best current goal scorer, and if he can get back to 100%, the ceiling for this current Maple Leafs team is very, very high.
