Dallas Stars star Tyler Seguin May Be Done for the Season After Major Unexpected Surgery
Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill has provided an unfortunate update regarding Tyler Seguin, and it appears he could be done for the season due to surgery.
The Dallas Stars will send forward Tyler Seguin under the knife for hip surgery this week, the club announced Wednesday. Recovery from the procedure will take four to six months, the team estimates.
The 32-year-old center has tallied nine goals and 11 assists in 19 games during the 2024-25 season. This marks his 12th campaign with Dallas and 15th in the NHL overall.
Seguin scored 25 goals and 27 assists for 52 points in 68 games played last year, the most since his 80 in the 2018-19 season.
Currently in year six of an eight-year, $78.8 million contract carrying an average annual value of $9.85 million, Seguin is due to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2026-27 season.
Born in Brampton, Ontario, Seguin was the second overall pick of the Boston Bruins back in 2010.
He had starred for the Bruins when the team took the 2011 Stanley Cup and was later moved to Dallas in July of 2013 after Boston was defeated in the Finals against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Through 988 career NHL contests with the Bruins and Stars, Seguin has compiled 360 goals and 448 assists.
He adds another 25 goals and 46 assists in 133 playoff games. The Stars currently sit in third place in the Central Division with 32 points and a 16-8 record.
