Auston Matthews Reveals Bleak Outlook For His Injury Status For the Remainder of the Season
Auston Matthews has missed plenty of time thus far in 2024/25, and according to the Maple Leafs captain, he likely won't get back to 100% this season due to an upper-body injury that's bothered him all year long.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been rolling early in 2024/25, and with some of their summer signings paying off, this appears to be a team that's finally ready for Stanley Cup success.
Unfortunately, captain Auston Matthews has already missed 14 of the 38 games the team has played with an upper-body injury, and with the captain still sidelined, he had this to say about the situation and whether he'll get back to 100% this season when speaking to The Athletic.
While Matthews was still a productive player when he returned, he wasn't quite the same superstar we've come to know, and if he can't get back to 100%, it severely limits the potential of this team.
As for when he'll get back, that is also unclear, with Head Coach Craig Berube not putting a timeline on No. 34's potential return, as he has been out since before Christmas.
In his absence, the duo of Mitch Marner and William Nylander have been rolling, combining for 94 points in the 38 games Toronto have played thus far, and while that's all well and good, without Matthews at 100%, it's unclear what the ceiling of this team truly is.
