New York Islanders forward JG Pageau has shared his thoughts on the team signing free-agent defenseman Tony DeAngelo.

Tony DeAngelo has long been one of the more controversial players in the NHL.

This season, the veteran blueliner signed with SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL which left many believing his time in the NHL was over.

However, the KHL club terminated DeAngelo's contract earlier this month.

The move immediately raised questions about his future in hockey, with many speculating that he would return to the NHL.

Fans who thought that were soon proven to be correct as DeAngelo signed with the New York Islanders this week.

The move is certainly controversial as the 29-year-old is still believed to have a questionable influence in the locker room.

That being said, so far his new teammates appear to be giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Islanders veteran Jean-Gabriel Pageau had this to say about the team welcoming DeAngelo to the organization.

"Seems like a nice guy. He was a pain in the ass to play against. And from what I've heard from other teams, he was well liked in the room. So that's all that I can say for now. I don't know him well enough."

DeAngelo last played in the NHL last season when he put up 11 points in 31 games for the Carolina Hurricanes.

In total, he has 48 goals and 210 points in 372 career regular-season NHL games.

He also has 1 goal and 13 points in 26 career playoff games, primarily with the Hurricanes.

He had 2 shots on goal in 25 minutes of ice time during his debut with the Islanders last night.
