After an amazing 1050-game NHL career, Loui Eriksson will be hanging up the skates.

The 39-year-old was drafted 33rd overall by the Dallas Stars way back in 2003, and went on to play a whopping sixteen seasons in the NHL.

He announced today, via a beautiful statement, that he has chosen to retire after pondering such for over a year:

It's time...

After a year and a half of reflection it's time to officially retire.

Hockey has given me more than I could have ever imagined.

I've had the highest of highs and lowest of lows. But at the end of the day I'm so thankful for the memories that I'm bringing as I walk away from the game of hockey.

I wanna thank my agents Claes Elefalk and Peter Werner, for believing in me as a young boy and the rest of the staff at CAA.

Thank you to Lerum BK, Frölunda HC, Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks and Arizona Coyotes. My teammates, coaches, staff, fans, friends and family on and off the ice through the years for the support, motivation, love and friendship you have shown me. I hope I gave you all something in return.

A special thank you to the Dallas Stars organization for helping me as a young man transition in to the life of an athlete in the states. For believing in me and giving me a chance to play in the NHL and making my dreams come true. The city of Dallas and the friends I crossed paths with through the years will forever have a special place in my heart.

To the youth athletes out there, always follow your dreams and remember that hard work and grit can take you further than talent. A combination of it all can be a success.

Believe in yourself!!

As the 2025 Four Nations Face-Off is around the corner, I wanna wish Team Sweden the best of luck. Nothing made me prouder than representing Tre Kronor.

A new beginning has already started and I'm so excited and proud to be my kids biggest supporter. To watch them do what they love and be there for them with love, laughter, support and motivation just like they were always there for me when I needed them the most.

To my wife M, you are one of a kind...

- Loui Eriksson

Eriksson will be remembered for his horrible contract with the Vancouver Canucks, but he should be remembered as a consistent and consummate NHLer who put it all on the ice for nearly two decades.

Have an amazing retirement, Loui!
