Bill Guerin gave Wild fans some unexpected bad news today with regards to the health of franchise centerpiece Kirill Kaprizov.

The Minnesota Wild started off hot this season and they remain a good team, but things have slowly been falling apart of them.

Through 56 games, the team has 70 points thanks to their 33-19-4 record.

However, they are currently 3rd place in the Central Division and sit just two points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche, who have slowly been making ground on them.

The team's slight downward trend began last month when superstar winger Kirill Kaprizov had to have surgery on his knee.

Originally, the Russian winger was expected to be out just four weeks, which would have him on pace to return just after the Four Nations tournament break.

Unfortunately though, Wild general Manager Bill Guerin gave us an update on his status today, saying that he will be out longer than originally expected.

"We think [Kirill Kaprizov is] going to be out longer than we originally thought. He's just recovering now and we will see how it turns out."

Kaprizov currently leads the Wild in goals with 23 and points with 52 despite getting into just 37 games so far.

Matt Boldy is second on the team with 48 points in 56 games played, showing just how important Kaprizov is to the team's offense.

The 27-year-old has been a superstar level player since coming over from the KHL after the 2019-20 season.

In 315 career regular-season NHL games, he has 183 goals and 199 assists for 382 points.

He already has one 100-point season and just missed that mark last year with 96 points in 75 games.

Injuries are starting to become a common problem for him though as he has only played in one full season, so hopefully that trend will not continue into his career.
