Times are tense for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Fans and team staff alike are on the edges of their seats as another trade deadline approaches.
The team remains well outside the playoff picture and is expected to be sellers once again over the next couple of weeks.
Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas has taken the brunt of the blame as the team seems stuck between a rebuild and pushing for the playoffs, leading to a disaster on the ice.
Former NHL defenseman PK Subban recently called Dubas out for failing to pick a lane, saying he needs to fully commit to a rebuild if that's what he wants and the team needs.
However, Subban is now facing criticism for his comments as he failed to give Dubas credit for his successes.
After all, the Penguins currently have 15 picks in the first three rounds of the draft over the next three seasons, including four 1st rounders and four 2nd rounders.
Both of the club's affiliate teams in the ECHL and AHL have also had tremendous seasons this year as the team's prospects develop, and this year's first round pick is currently well within the top-ten.
Even Kyle Dubas' grandmother chimed in to chirp back at Subban, saying he's 'messing up commentating.'
To be fair to Subban though, it would be disingenuous to say that Dubas has embraced a full rebuild.
He has tried to put a competitive team on the ice to get Sidney Crosby into the playoffs one last time, but the results have been so bad it is almost looks like it was an intentional tank job.
That being said, Dubas has already started trading off players and that trend is likely to continue as we get closer to the March 7th trade deadline.
