After being waived by the Edmonton Oilers earlier this season, Travis Dermott once again finds himself being waived, this time by the Minnesota Wild.

Following a summer that saw him draw little interest on the market, veteran defenseman Travis Dermott found himself with the Edmonton Oilers, likely to play a depth, seventh d-man role with the team.

After little playing time however, the veteran was waived earlier this season before being picked up by the injury plagued Minnesota Wild, who were set to utilize the versatile veteran in a much better capacity.

On Tuesday however, they surprised the NHL world by also waiving the veteran blue liner after just nine games with the team over the past few months.

Like his stint with the Oilers, Dermott went scoreless for the Wild, making it 19 games this season without a point recorded, with the 34-year old tallying a -3 differential throughout that stretch.

Unfortunately for Dermott, the Wild just needed more forwards due to injury, and without the added depth necessary on the blue line, he was ultimately the player that would make way for the changes.

On the open market right now, there are plenty of teams searching for cheap defensive depth, and with very few teams wanting to give up significant assets to get that help, we may now see Dermott as a very intriguing candidate to be a waiver claim.

Ultimately, the former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick isn't the player he once was when he was tallying top-four minutes as a shutdown defenseman, but he can still be a very capable player at the NHL level when given the opportunity, so while he won't be an exciting addition for any team on the waiver wire, expect some teams to show interest as a cheap depth move for a veteran.
