The Edmonton Oilers lost Travis Dermott to waivers earlier this season, and now they've claimed the veteran blue liner after being waived by Minnesota, giving them even more depth on a struggling blue line.

The Edmonton Oilers defense has fallen apart since the return to play following the Four Nations, with the team surrendering 17 goals in three games played on the road thus far with an 0-3-0 record during that stretch.

It's been clear for some time that they need help on the blue line, and even after signing John Klingberg to a free agency deal, those questions have persisted, especially with their immense struggles as of late.

Now, they've claimed a familiar face on waivers, as the team have officially brought back veteran Travis Dermott after he began the season with the team before being waived a few months ago.

In 9 games with the Wild, Dermott went scoreless and most often served as the teams seventh defenseman given his reliable play and versatility, and now, he'll look to bring the same to the Oilers.

While Dermott doesn't present a major upgrade over many players on the Oilers blue line, he could give them something different than Troy Stecher or Brett Kulak, so now we will wait to see whether or not he gets in the lineup over the coming weeks, or whether or not he'll once again serve as the seventh defenseman in the group.

Despite their struggles in their last four games, the Oilers remain second in the Pacific Division, and are once again shaping up to be a major Stanley Cup contender in the Western Conference, but now we will see whether or not they've got another move coming or if they believe in this group moving forward.
