Hockey world in mourning after NHL Alumni confirms heartbreaking loss of former Sabres pick Matt Davidson
The hockey world woke up to heavy news this morning.
The NHL Alumni Association announced the passing of former Buffalo Sabres draft pick Matt Davidson at 48.
The statement landed Wednesday on the league's alumni channels.
It hit fans, former teammates, and junior hockey circles all at once.
Davidson was selected by the Sabres in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
That came after two seasons with the WHL's Portland Winter Hawks, where he made his name as a teenager.
He went back to Portland for two more seasons after the draft.
That kind of return tells you what the city meant to him, and what he meant to that program.
Forty-eight is no age to lose anyone.
