Brendan Gallagher and Martin St-Louis are sending a message right now, even if no one says it out loud.

And it's getting harder to ignore.

Gallagher has barely played in these playoffs. He dressed for only 3 games, and when the games got tighter, his role disappeared.

That's not a coincidence.

That's a signal.

Because when a veteran like Gallagher gets pushed out of the lineup in key moments, it tells you exactly where he stands in the current plan.

And right now, that plan is shifting fast.

Habs veteran suddenly linked to the Canucks and fans are stunned

The reality is simple.

Gallagher still brings leadership. He still matters in the room. But on the ice, the gap is growing - and so is the pressure tied to his $6.5 million cap hit.

That's where this turns into a real offseason issue.

There's already talk that Kent Hughes could explore ways to move his contract. Not because Gallagher isn't respected, but because the Canadiens are leaning into speed, youth, and a different kind of lineup identity.

And Gallagher doesn't fit that mold the same way anymore.

One potential landing spot is already floating out there.

Vancouver.

It makes some sense. He's from the area, the Canucks are heading toward a rebuild, and they have room to absorb money if the deal makes sense.

But it's not that simple.

Gallagher has a limited no-trade clause. He controls part of this process. And off the ice, his situation in Montreal is stable, with his family rooted there.

That matters.

A lot.

So even if the Canadiens want to explore options, there are real barriers to making anything happen.

And if a trade doesn't materialize, the alternatives get complicated fast.

Buyout?

Keeping him in a reduced role?

Neither is clean.

That's why this situation is building now.

Because the playoffs already showed it.

Gallagher isn't part of the core on the ice anymore.

The only question left is what the Canadiens do about it this summer.
