Matthew Tkachuk faces embarrassing offseason controversy at World Championship
Matthew Tkachuk and Paul Maurice won't love this look after Team USA's exit, because the loudest moment from his quarterfinal wasn't a goal.
Tkachuk was called for diving in the United States' 4-0 loss to Canada on Thursday at the 2026 IIHF World Championship.
That's what made the finish stand out.
He came into the game as the biggest name on the American roster, then got flagged by the officials for trying to sell contact in a game that slipped away fast.
For a player built on edge, agitation, and big-game presence, that kind of whistle changes the conversation in a hurry.

When a star with his profile gets tagged by officials for embellishment, people remember it.
The Panthers winger remains one of hockey's most disruptive players when he's on his game. But this time, the edge didn't tilt the ice.
