Darnell Nurse is back at the center of Edmonton's summer, and Stan Bowman now looks stuck in a narrow trade lane.

Elliotte Friedman's latest update added real shape to that market. Philadelphia is interested, Boston is interested, Pittsburgh wants salary retention Edmonton won't give, and Anaheim still isn't on Nurse's approved path based on the report shared Sunday.

That matters because this is no small contract to move. Nurse carries a 9,250,000 cap hit, and that number keeps limiting the number of clubs that can even stay in the conversation.

The big takeaway isn't that teams are calling. Of course they are. The real news is that every route Friedman mentioned comes with a roadblock attached.

Philadelphia sounds like the cleanest hockey fit, but only if the Flyers clear money first. Boston is in a similar spot, which means Edmonton could be waiting on other trades before this one has any chance to move.

Pittsburgh's angle is even more telling. The Penguins want Edmonton to retain, and that's exactly where Bowman appears to be drawing a hard line.

Edmonton has interest, but not leverage on Darnell Nurse

That's the pressure point in this story. Nurse posted 24 points in 82 games last season and averaged 20:58 a night, so Edmonton can still point to a defender who plays real minutes on the blue line.

But his value around the league is being judged against the contract first. That's why interested teams are trying to either move money out, get retention, or wait for Nurse to widen the list.

Anaheim's role here is worth watching. Friedman's note that Nurse hasn't agreed to open up for the Ducks tells you this process is still player-driven as much as team-driven.

And that leaves Edmonton in a squeeze. Bowman can shop the player, but a deal only becomes real if the cap math works and Nurse signs off on the destination.

This is why the Oilers still feel stuck even with multiple teams circling. Interest is one thing. Usable interest is another.

Right now, Friedman's update says the market is alive, but it also says Nurse isn't close to moving unless one of those hurdles finally breaks.
