Darnell Nurse is already under the microscope in San Jose, and Ryan Warsofsky now has an early summer storm on his blue line.
That noise got louder after an X post Thursday tied Nurse to one of the first real controversies of his Sharks run.
The post relayed Elliotte Friedman's latest line on 32 Thoughts, and it landed hard because it framed this as a choice, not a fallback.
The quote is the whole issue: “They coulda had Morgan Rielly, they got Darnell Nurse… they had a choice.”

That changes the way this move gets talked about around the league and inside the fan base. If San Jose picked Nurse over Rielly, then the pressure shifts straight to Nurse.

There's another layer here, too. San Jose's young core needs stability behind it, not a summer debate that follows the team into camp and onto the first road trip.
Nurse still has time to flip the conversation. But Friedman's report made one thing clear: in San Jose, he won't be judged only as a new defenseman. He'll be judged as the defenseman the Sharks chose.
