Elias Pettersson has entered Manny Malhotra's offseason picture through a fan-made trade proposal involving the New York Islanders.
The suggested framework would send Pettersson to New York for Alexander Romanov, prospect Danny Nelson and a second-round draft pick.

The return would still invite serious questions from Canucks fans. Pettersson is a major roster piece, and moving him for this package could look light unless Vancouver values every element highly.
Romanov would bring another NHL defender to Malhotra's blue line. Nelson would add a developing centre, while the second-round pick would give management another future asset.
For New York, the appeal is easy to see. Pettersson could strengthen the top six and give Peter DeBoer another centre or winger capable of handling an offensive role.
But the Islanders would have to absorb his full cap charge unless Vancouver retained salary or another contract moved in the deal.
The original proposal also argues that moving Romanov would help New York become cap compliant. That claim depends on the Islanders' full roster and any other transactions.
No established insider has tied Pettersson to the Islanders through this exact framework. A fan supporting the deal does not establish that either front office shares the same view.
