The Oilers' McDavid asking price to Philadelphia is almost impossible to believe

Connor McDavid to the Philadelphia Flyers remains pure speculation, but the return Edmonton would demand is the real story.

Former NHL enforcer and current Flyers broadcaster Todd Fedoruk raised the idea this week on Philadelphia radio, and it spread fast.

Fedoruk suggested McDavid could start looking elsewhere if Edmonton stumbles, and claimed rumors already have Philadelphia on his radar.

Nothing here is confirmed. No one from McDavid's camp, Edmonton or Philadelphia has said a word about an actual trade request.

McDavid just posted 48 goals and 90 assists for 138 points over 82 games, numbers that make the what-would-Philadelphia-even-get argument hard to support.

The real question is not his talent. It is what Edmonton would actually demand in exchange for two guaranteed seasons of it.

Philadelphia actually has the cap room to try it

The Flyers carry real cap space, a deep prospect pool and draft capital most rebuilding teams simply do not have.

Edmonton would almost certainly start the conversation with Matvei Michkov as the centerpiece, a 21-year-old who posted 51 points over 81 games this past season.

Philadelphia would likely fight to protect Michkov and instead build a package around names like Tyson Foerster, Jett Luchanko and Oliver Bonk.

Foerster posted 17 points in just 29 games this past season, Luchanko has only 4 NHL games to his name, and Bonk has played a single game at the NHL level.

A package built without Michkov would likely need two top prospects, a proven young NHL regular and multiple first-round picks just to get taken seriously.

Edmonton would also want a conditional piece that improves if McDavid actually signs long-term in Philadelphia, protecting against a two-year rental scenario.

Giving up four or five foundational pieces for two seasons without a signed extension is exactly the kind of gamble that could set a franchise back for years.

The original breakdown of this speculation is worth reading directly.

Philadelphia has the cap space to dream about this. Whether it has the stomach to pay Edmonton's actual asking price is a completely different question.
