Jack Nesbitt already looks like a major successful Flyers acquisition from the 2025 Los Angeles draft, giving Rick Tocchet a huge center to track.
Philadelphia selected Nesbitt 12th overall with a clear vision. The Flyers wanted size, strength down the middle and a prospect capable of handling difficult minutes.
That decision received another boost Saturday at the World Junior Summer Showcase in Windsor, Ontario.
Nesbitt was named Canada's Player of the Game following a 7-2 loss to the United States. He earned the recognition without recording a point.
That detail carries weight. Nesbitt found ways to influence the game through his positioning, puck pursuit and work away from the scoresheet.
At 6-foot-5, the 19-year-old has the frame to become a difficult matchup. His progress now depends on learning how to use that size consistently without sacrificing pace.
Nesbitt gives the Flyers a different option
The Flyers didn't draft Nesbitt strictly for offense. They invested in a center who could eventually support a top six, handle defensive assignments and create space around the crease.
His showcase finale reflected that broader profile. Canada's staff recognized his overall impact during a lopsided defeat, a strong signal in a tournament built around evaluation.
Nesbitt appeared in only 2 games at the event, yet he finished his short audition with momentum. His age and experience also strengthen his case for Canada's World Junior roster.
Philadelphia's 2025 class produced more encouraging results. Jack Murtagh collected 2 goals and 4 assists across 8 showcase games for the United States.
Carter Amico also pushed his name forward. The 6-foot-5 defenseman recorded 2 goals and 2 assists in 10 games while displaying mobility that stands out for a player carrying that frame.
But Nesbitt remains the centerpiece. The Flyers used a premium selection on a center whose value won't always be measured by points, and this performance showed why.
Tocchet wants players who compete, manage the puck and remain useful when offense isn't coming easily. Nesbitt's Player of the Game honor fits that identity.
One summer showcase won't settle his NHL future. It did give Philadelphia another reason to believe its bold first-round acquisition could become a major piece of the rebuild.
