Gunnar Conboy gave head coach Reid Cashman a spark, but the celebration became the lasting image of Team USA's 8-1 loss to Canada.
Canada had already taken control of Saturday's Hlinka Gretzky Cup championship game. Brock England's second goal put the Americans behind 3-0 before the opening period was finished.
Then Conboy finally broke through at 18:23. His power-play goal cut Canada's lead to 3-1 and gave the U.S. something to take into the intermission.
The moment aged badly. Canada answered with 5 consecutive goals after Conboy scored, turning that brief American surge into an 8-1 championship-game rout.

There was no comeback waiting on the other side of the intermission. Canada controlled the rest of the night and never gave Cashman's group another opening to change the momentum.
The final shouldn't erase Team USA's tournament. The Americans finished 4-0-0-1 and secured their 10th second-place finish at the event.
But championship games create lasting images, and this one was rough. Canada scored 3 times in the second period alone after entering the frame with the Americans briefly showing life.
Canadian goaltender Leif Oaten faced only 17 shots and stopped 16. Team USA simply couldn't generate enough sustained pressure once Canada restored full control.
Brock England, Maddox Schultz and Liam Pue each scored 2 goals, while Landon DuPont piled up 4 assists from the blue line.
Canada walked away with its 26th Hlinka Gretzky Cup title, reclaiming the trophy after the Americans captured the event in 2025.
For Team USA, the silver medal matters. But after that celebration at 3-1, watching Canada own every goal that followed made the ending especially difficult to shake.
