Quinn Hughes has dropped a stunning Dylan Larkin wrinkle that puts Todd McLellan and the Detroit Red Wings under an uncomfortable spotlight.

The latest report connects Hughes directly to Larkin's thinking. Michael Russo says the two skate together every day, and Hughes knows Larkin's preferred destination is the Minnesota Wild.

That's a much bigger development than another name floating through the summer rumor mill. Larkin is the face of Detroit's current core, and Minnesota apparently sits at the front of his wish list if a move happens.

There's an important distinction: this isn't confirmation that Larkin formally demanded a trade. But a reported preferred destination coming through a player as plugged in as Hughes is enough to turn whispers into something Detroit can't simply ignore.

Larkin also carries an $8,700,000 cap hit through 2030-31. Any deal involving him would be a franchise-level decision, not a simple summer reshuffle.

And Hughes being connected to the information gives the story another layer. These aren't players separated by six degrees of NHL gossip; Russo's report says they're skating together daily.

That doesn't mean Larkin is packing his bags for Minnesota. It does mean the Wild suddenly have a giant spotlight on them, while Detroit faces a question nobody expected to become this loud in August.
