Connor Hellebuyck has put Scott Arniel's Jets in a bind, but Winnipeg's trade demand is now taking shape.
The Jets aren't looking to move their star goaltender simply to collect draft picks and prospects. The priority appears to be NHL-ready help that can strengthen the roster immediately.
David Pagnotta reported that Winnipeg wants to address several needs, with its second line standing near the top of the list. That changes the profile of any serious trade package.
Instead of building a futures-heavy return, Winnipeg can use Hellebuyck's value to target forwards capable of stepping directly into Arniel's lineup.
That approach also puts pressure on general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. Moving a franchise goaltender creates a massive hole unless the return makes Winnipeg more dangerous somewhere else.

The Jets have another factor working in their favour. Stuart Skinner's arrival gives them an established option in the crease if Hellebuyck is moved.
Winnipeg wants players who can help now
The asking price tells teams around the league that Winnipeg isn't approaching this like the start of a rebuild. The Jets still want pieces who can contribute when the puck drops this season.
That matters for clubs holding young forwards who already have NHL experience. A package loaded with future picks may carry value, but it doesn't necessarily solve Winnipeg's immediate lineup problems.
Hellebuyck also controls part of the process. He has a no-movement clause, meaning the Jets can't simply accept the best offer without the goaltender's cooperation.
His trade request has already pushed the situation beyond ordinary offseason speculation. Hellebuyck confirmed that request through agent Ray Petkau, putting Winnipeg into a position where a major decision could arrive before camp.
Buffalo has been linked to the discussions, with combinations involving young forwards and picks reportedly entering the conversation. That type of package fits much closer to what Winnipeg appears to want.
The biggest question now isn't whether teams value Hellebuyck. It's whether one of them is willing to surrender an NHL-ready forward Winnipeg views as a real top-six upgrade.
If Cheveldayoff holds that line, the Hellebuyck market could narrow quickly. But it also gives the Jets a chance to turn an uncomfortable trade request into immediate help for Arniel's roster.
