General manager Julien Brisebois now faces the task of finding the contract structure that keeps Kucherov in a Lightning sweater long term. The desire from both sides gives those talks a clear foundation.

There could still be twists before a contract is signed. Money, term and timing matter, especially when dealing with a player carrying Kucherov's stature around the league.

But the biggest question surrounding his future just received an important answer. Kucherov doesn't want out.
