Adam Fantilli doesn't hold back when asked about the Kirill Marchenko trade

Adam Fantilli didn't hide his feelings about Kirill Marchenko, giving Rick Bowness and the Blue Jackets a blunt post-trade message.

Fantilli spoke directly about his former teammate Wednesday, making it clear that Marchenko's departure goes beyond losing a talented winger from Columbus' lineup.

The Blue Jackets center praised Marchenko's ability and personality before turning sharply toward what Columbus expects from the players inside its locker room.

“As much as I love playing with him, super smart, skilled, fun guy... but we want guys that want to play for the Jackets and want to win here, and it sucks that it wasn't him.”

That's a strong public statement from Fantilli. He isn't questioning what Marchenko brought with the puck. He's questioning whether the winger wanted to remain part of what Columbus is trying to build.

And coming from one of the Blue Jackets' core players, that carries weight. Fantilli essentially drew a line between enjoying Marchenko as a teammate and believing fully in the direction of the organization.

The timing makes the comments even more striking. Marchenko has just been traded, and Fantilli immediately framed the departure around commitment rather than simply treating it as another NHL business decision.
