Frank Seravalli reports that the Lightning are telling other teams they won't move Nikita Kucherov at the deadline, and Tampa Bay hosts Chicago tonight.
The decision lands after weeks of noise. Kucherov is 33, his current deal expires after this season, and no extension has been signed.
NHL Trade Rumors passed along the report, and it added a detail that matters just as much: a 4-year, $60M offer is also believed to be on the table.

That is the number everyone will chew on. The post asked whether it is worth the free-agency risk, and for Tampa the answer looks like yes, because the alternative is losing him for nothing.
Earlier this week, Kucherov's reported $17 million target had people wondering how far apart the two sides really were. Elliotte Friedman said Kucherov's initial ask was pegged to Kirill Kaprizov's deal, around $17 million a year. A $60M offer over four years sits well below that.

Why the Lightning are holding firm
Look at what he is doing. Kucherov has 20 points in 14 games, with 4 goals and 16 assists, and he is a +6.
The team around him is humming too. Tampa sits 9-3-2, eighth in the NHL and fourth in the Atlantic, and it is a perfect 7-0-0 at home.
The road is the soft spot at 2-3-2. A team that wants to hold its place in the standings is not shipping out its best player.

The Kucherov and Dylan Larkin comparison from Chris Johnston earlier today fits the same theme, that he will not leave the way other stars have.
Bob's view: holding him is the right call. Trading a 1,143-point career producer in the middle of a 6-2-2 stretch makes no hockey sense, and the Lightning would be selling low on leverage they may never get back.
But the contract question is unresolved. Until a deal is signed, every Kucherov highlight will come with the same asterisk, and the deadline is where the pressure comes back.
Should the Lightning hand Nikita Kucherov a 4-year, $60M extension?
