Huge news broke on Sunday concerning the future of Barry Trotz.
After much conjecture over his future, Barry Trotz will assume the role of General Manager and President of Hockey Operations for the Nashville Predators this summer.
On Sunday afternoon, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman reported that David Poile - Nashville's GM and President for the last 26 years - is retiring at season's end effective June 30th.
This season, he became the first GM in league history with 3,000 games as a manager, in Washington before Nashville. Incredible career, especially in building Tennessee hockey from a curiosity to an important NHL franchise.— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) February 26, 2023
"Barry Trotz is believed to be Poile's successor. Starting work immediately, although not officially the GM until June 30."
In 1,196 games behind the bench for the Preds, Trotz posted a 557-479-60-100 record over 15 seasons. If there was a perfect replacement for Poile, it was Trotz.
It is impossible not to be completely gassed up for Trotz - one of the game's premier Good Guys. He was a phenomenal head coach, so logic would dictate that he will be an exceptional General Manager.
