According to ESPN's Emily Kaplan, the Detroit Red Wings have signed captain Dylan Larkin to an eight-year contract extension worth $69.6 million ($8.7 million AAV).
Larkin, 26, was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and expressed his desire to remain a Detroit Red Wing for a long time. Contract talks between Larkin's camp and the Red Wings didn't really begin to pick up until last month, following a meeting between the two sides at All-Star Weekend.
The Waterford (Michigan) native is in his eighth season with the Red Wings, who drafted him 15th overall in 2014. In 59 games this season, Larkin has 57 points (22 goals, 35 assists), 31 penalty minutes and is a minus-four.
