As a young athlete playing organized sports, particularly hockey, one of the primary values emphasized by coaches was to respect your opponent regardless of the situation. As you aged, this respect was often upheld through a code of conduct.

Sometimes this value was not taught effectively or fully understood by young players. This appears to be the case in a recent video circulating on social media, where a larger child in black and gold pushes a smaller child in black, white, and red before skating away.

The smaller child responds hitting the larger child across the head, causing him to fall, after the larger child punches him in the face.

While some may argue that respect is something that must be earned, in the context of minor sports, children should be learning important life lessons while having fun.
