Following the Winnipeg Jets recent elimination from the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights, coach Rick Bowness expressed disappoint and even disgust in his players.
"I'm so disappointed and disgusted right now," Bowness said following Winnipeg's game 5 loss.
"There has to be pride. You have to be able to push back when things aren't going your way. We had no pushback. Their better players were so much better than ours tonight. They deserved to win."
At least one of Bowness's players isn't at all happy with not only what he said, but how the situation was handled.
"I thought Bones had an opportunity to address us as a team. He could've been honest with us, handled it behind closed doors," said veteran Blake Wheeler.
"I didn't like how he handled himself after the game," Wheeler added.
Wheeler was stripped of the captaincy of the Winnipeg Jets just before the 2022-23 season began, with the team opting to go without one for the entire year. Wheeler, who is 36, has one year left on his current contract with Winnipeg.
