Jarmo Kekalainen wasn't kidding when he put an emphasis on defense. He has now acquired his second defenseman of the off-season.

Blue Jackets Acquire Severson

Damon Severson has been an important piece for the New Jersey Devils for the past few years, but, poised to hit the free agent market and get a major raise, he has now been traded.

In a complicated sign-and-trade deal, the Devils will sign Severson to an eight-year, $50-million deal, that carries an annual average value of $6.25-million.

He will then be traded to the Blue Jackets in exchange for a third round pick.

Columbus acquired Ivan Provorov a few days ago, which emphasizes the teams focus on defense.
